Site History:

This site aims to provide current and archive records of the Well Dressings drawn from my own association with the EWDA since 1998. To my knowledge it is the only publicly available record of the festivals drawn from my own photographic records and features from the original web developments.

The EWDA website was originally created in 1997 as an information page by my son Jason.  It became a true web site with the publication of the very first pram race report in 1999 in which my own family participated for the first and last time!. From then on, every pram race has had a photographic record on the site and archive records of the well festivals started to be created.

In 2000 the Hawk and Buckle joined the band of well dressers and as I was by then building their commercial web site, Their well history became the pilot for archive records of the wells and for a feature on Well board construction.  The construction feature was originally a presentation project for my PGCE studies in 2001 and introduced interactive features later used in the current community site.

In 2003 the EWDA formally adopted the site using funding previously allocated to newspaper advertising to cover the operating costs. In return, the Website promoted the Pram Race and donated the Ash Drop Trophy which has been awarded ever since to the team making the "Best Overall Contribution to the Event" The site reached its most comprehensive coverage in 2005 when it provided full coverage of all the activities of the 2004 & 2005 Festivals and supporting events, even including details of authorised traders.

In 2006 the committee elected to assume all responsibility for the official Well Dressing site EWDA-Wells.ws. Their new site can now be found on http://www.welldressings.co.uk

As time permits I intend to publish additional features from the archives on this site, starting with an illustrated history of the infamous Pram Race. So watch this space.
